At CanDox we use electronic barcode scanning to track every movement of every item in our care.  Boxes, files from boxes, and even documents from files are date and time stamped with every scan so our clients know who requested an activity, who carried it out, and exactly when anything happens to an item—from the point of pickup through retrieval, delivery, return, and finally disposition.  Data relating to boxes and files can be tracked both physically (on paper) and electronically (data capture) for double-confirmed accuracy.
